Ingredients

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup brown sugar, packed

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later. Lightly grease the parchment paper.

Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, beating on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in chocolate chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) with a spatula until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Spread into the pan: Pour the cookie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula to ensure even cooking.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and slice: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Then, using the parchment overhang, lift the bars out of the pan and allow them to cool completely on the wire rack before cutting them into squares or rectangles.

Serve and enjoy: Serve your chewy chocolate chip cookie bars warm or at room temperature. Enjoy with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!
