Monkey bread, also known as pull-apart bread, has an interesting history that traces back to the mid-20th century. Its origins are often linked to the Hungarian pastry “kuglóf,” which is a sweet, yeast-based bread. However, the version we know today, made primarily with biscuit dough, gained popularity in America during the 1980s. This delightful dish is typically served as a breakfast treat or a fun snack, with its pieces easily pulled apart by hand, leading to its playful name.

Ingredients

2 cups cooked chicken, shredded

16 oz refrigerated biscuit dough (flaky type)

1 cup Alfredo sauce (store-bought or homemade)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a bundt pan with cooking spray or butter.

Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, Alfredo sauce, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly coated.

Prepare the Biscuit Dough: Open the biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into quarters. You can use kitchen scissors or a sharp knife for this.

Coat the Biscuit Pieces: In a separate bowl, drizzle the melted butter over the biscuit pieces and toss to coat. Make sure all pieces are well-covered in butter.

Layer the Monkey Bread: Begin layering by placing a third of the butter-coated biscuit pieces at the bottom of the greased bundt pan. Top with half of the chicken and cheese mixture. Repeat this step twice, finishing with the last third of the biscuit pieces on top.

Add More Cheese: If there's any remaining cheese mixture, sprinkle it on top of the final layer of biscuit pieces.

Bake: Place the bundt pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the biscuits are fully cooked.

Cool Before Serving: Once baked, let it cool for about 10 minutes before inverting it onto a serving platter. This helps in keeping the bread intact.

Garnish and Serve: Drizzle a bit more Alfredo sauce on top and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for garnish. Pull apart the monkey bread pieces and enjoy warm!
