Ingredients

1 loaf of cinnamon raisin bread (about 12 slices)

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Maple syrup, for serving

Powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prep the Bread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the cinnamon raisin bread into cubes (about 1-inch pieces) and set aside.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine: Gently fold the bread cubes into the egg mixture until all pieces are well-coated. If using, fold in the raisins and walnuts.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Pour the bread mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly.

Soak: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture, or refrigerate overnight for an even richer flavor.

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap and place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. You can cover it with foil during the last 10 minutes to avoid over-browning.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Cut into squares and serve warm, drizzling with maple syrup and dusting with powdered sugar if desired.

Garnish: Top with fresh fruit or additional raisins and nuts for an added touch.
