1 lb (450g) chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces

1 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 cup panko bread crumbs

Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Marinate the Chicken: In a medium bowl, mix the buttermilk with hot sauce (if using). Add the chicken pieces, ensure they are well-coated, and let marinate for at least 30 minutes to 2 hours (for best results).

    Prepare the Breading Station: While the chicken is marinating, set up your breading station. In one shallow dish, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. In another dish, place the panko bread crumbs.

      Coat the Chicken: Remove the chicken pieces from the buttermilk marinade, letting any excess liquid drip off. Dredge each piece first in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated, then dip it back briefly into the buttermilk before rolling it in the panko bread crumbs to achieve a crispy coating.

        Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

          Arrange Chicken Nuggets: Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Arrange the coated chicken nuggets in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded (you may need to do this in batches).

            Air Fry: Lightly spray the tops of the chicken nuggets with cooking spray. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

              Check for Doneness: Ensure the internal temperature of the chicken nuggets has reached 165°F (75°C). If they need more time, air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes.
