12 slider buns

1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed

1 cup pepperoni slices

1 cup sliced bell peppers (red, green, and yellow)

1 small red onion, thinly sliced

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup marinara sauce

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

    Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and then the Italian sausage. Break it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

      Sauté Vegetables: Add the sliced bell peppers and red onion to the skillet with the sausage. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are just softened.

        Combine Flavors: Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, red pepper flakes (if using), and season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow to simmer for 2 minutes until heated through.

          Assemble the Sliders: Cut the slider buns in half horizontally to create a top and bottom half for each slider. Place the bottom halves in a greased baking dish. Spoon a generous amount of the sausage and vegetable mixture onto each bottom bun, followed by a layer of pepperoni slices and shredded mozzarella cheese.

            Top with Buns: Place the top halves of the buns onto each slider. Optionally, brush the tops with a little olive oil and sprinkle with additional Italian seasoning.

              Bake the Sliders: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the slider tops are golden brown.

                Serve with Style: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Serve warm and enjoy the gooey, spicy goodness!
