8-10 lasagna noodles

1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

2 cloves garlic, minced

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Cook the Noodles: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.

    Prepare the Meat Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef (or sausage). Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Break it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat. Add minced garlic and Italian seasoning, and cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

      Mix Cheese Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, and the egg. Season with salt and pepper. Mix well until smooth and homogeneous.

        Assemble the Rollups: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a small amount of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Take a cooked lasagna noodle and place it on a clean surface. Spread a layer of the cheese filling along the length of the noodle, followed by a spoonful of the meat mixture. Carefully roll the noodle up, starting from one end to the other, and place seam-side down into the baking dish. Repeat this process with the remaining noodles.

          Add Sauce and Cheese: Once all the rollups are in the dish, pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top, ensuring every roll is covered. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.

            Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, you can spray the foil with cooking spray). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
